Restless

"A ruffled mind makes a restless pillow." ~ Charlotte Bronte

My restlessness is pushing at me again. It's time for a major change or a depression. So, I choose change. I want to spend my time encouraging people with psychiatric issues to express themselves creatively as an emotional outlet. That's the general idea anyway. I'll probably start with volunteer work. I have to research what's available in the area.

An ignorance weighs down my soul
A yearning dribbles from my bones
Frustration screams along the floors
And obstinacy roosts itself
Beside my good intentions and
I know it's time.

As ideation stagnates here
A tide's amiss, and beckons me
To follow into choppy seas
And float above the desert lands
A wind to chase away the blues
I know it's time.

  1. Yeah, always go with the change. That depression thing needs to know who's in charge. That would be You. And trust me, I'm also speaking to myself every time I appear to be speaking to others. :)

Some good imagery in that poem.

  2. I'm sure that volunteers are greatly sought after. There's a real shortage of people ready, able and willing to do volunteer work these days. Good for you!

  4. There should be tons of opportunities. In my area there is a central org for county mental health groups and orgs. Then there are places like domestic abuse shelters, rehab centers, youth intervention and special education. Even our hospice has volunteers who conduct workshops geared to diff age groups - children, teens, spouses - and encourage them to explore memory and grief through journals, poetry, and art.
(Sorry so long-winded, but it's a subject dear to my heart; I work in special ed and have also worked with hospice.) And helping others is a great way to both kick depression and explore oneself at the same time! Good luck.

  5. Although sad, it is a lovely poem and still expresses hope. Yes, taking care of others can lift sadness. Best wishes for finding a spot for you that lifts up your energy again.

  6. What a great approach. This is exactly the sort of thing that helps to combat depression - and helps someone else at the same time.
